Use of Trachyspermum ammi ( Ajwain)

Known by many names like Ajwain or ajowan, bishop's weed, ajowan caraway, Carom seeds or thymol seeds or Vaamu in Telgu or Omam tamil is plant of India, Pakistan and the near East whose seeds are used as species.



It contains thymol, but is more aromatic and less subtle in taste, as well as slightly bitter and pungent. Even a small amount of raw fruit pods of Trachyspermum ammi ( ajwain) tends to dominate the flavor of a dish.

 In India Ajwain is used in many different ways. Ajwain is traditionally believed to be digestive aid.  In southern part of India Ajwain seeds are powdered and soaked in milk, which is then filtered and fed to babies .

On the other hand In northern part of India Ajwain is used for stomach pain. It is very effective in Stomach pain, When taken  a spoonful withe the pinch of salt and a glass of warm water. People use too have it with normal water but is very effective it swallowed with warm water.

It is used in Indian typical recipes which are hard to digest like Pakoras and Bajji etc.
