Carom..(Ajwain)

I still remember Mothers and
GrandMothers handing out Ajwain seeds to family members whenever have an upset stomach.Ajwain or Carom Seeds also known as Bishop’s is a common herb found in Indian households and  is well known for properties that make it one of the most used home remedies. It is primarily used to improve the flavor of Dishes. In our country (India) primarily found in Madhya Pradesh. It is used to refined flavor in the Middle East.  The Ajwain seeds are tiny and are Greyish Green in color. They are spicy to taste and have an string Flavor. Ajwain smells similar to thyme.

Ajwain fried in Ghee is used to season Dhal Spices.It can be added to the dough while making Parathas and Rotis.  Ajwain is added to many deep fried snack dishes and chat items to enhance flavour. This is also used as dressing in salad. Ajwain seeds go well with Fish preparations.

Basically Ajwain is known for its healthful properties.  Its is very popular in treating stomach related hurting issues/disorders. In early age or Children are given small doses of tea made of Ajwain in regular intervals to keep away from  any kind of pain/hurting.  Clean and wash one spoon of Ajwain seeds in water and then include them to boiling water. Cool the water filter, this tea can be given to anyone whosoever having Gastric problems. The Ajwain Tea is the best home remedy for indigestion and acidity problems. The strong flavor helps prevent bad breath.  This is the best remedy to control vomiting sensations.  Ajwain is a good source of thymol which is known for its anti Bacteria properties.  Ajwain helps to keep away from cold and Cough.

Ajwain oil is used to treat joint pains. Ayurvedic preparations that are used to cure stomach, kidney disorders use Ajwain as an element. Even A paste made of this can be applied on insect bites to relieve pains.  Asthmatics are recommended to take Ajwain in regular intervals. Add a Spoon of Ajwain to boiling water and inhale the steam this prevents Nasal Congestion.

Ajwain seeds are readily available in Markets, This need to buy in small quantities and should be used as early as possible else the essential oils would evaporate and the flavor is lost.  Have to ensure Once the pack is opened it should be stored in cool dry place and in an air tight container. Those  Patients who suffered from ulcer should avoid Ajwain as it may worsen.
